Everywhere you turn brands are pushing endless products promising healthy, radiant smooth skin. First step is to understand the difference between the terms "hydrate" and "moisturize". Many of us do not know that although brands use the terms interchangeably they are not the same thing.
"Hydraters" are humectants, such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid, that absorb water from the atmosphere or your skin and hold it in place on your skin. "moisturizers" have oil-based ingredients that help trap and seal in moisture to build the skins protective barrier, Also preventing water loss and keeping the skin soft and smooth.
How would you know if your skin is in need of moisture or is simply dehydrated? Well if you feel as though your skin is dull and any fine lines and wrinkles are becoming more visible, you can see that your skin is dehydrated and is in need of hydration. But if you notice your skin is on the dry side and is prone to flakiness your barrier may not be locking in moisture. This is where moisturizers come in.
