Winterizing your lips!

With the cold, dry winter weather, the presence of chapped lips tend to increase. Our lips don't have oil glands. So they're almost always exposed to the elements. Exposure to the sun, wind and cold also can contribute to chapped lips. There are 3 steps you can follow to achieve moisturized plumped lips throughout the year.

A great first step to keeping your lips soft is by exfoliating the lips about 1-2 times a week because just like our skin our lips often build up dead skin. One of our current favorite exfoliant for the lips is the smoothing lip polish by Glo skin beauty not only will this product help remove dead skin cells but with the blend of sweet almond oil and Shea butter it has inside of it, it will condition the lips.

The second step would be to frequently apply lip balms with hydrating blend of oils to lock in moisture. Look for lip balms that have hydrating ingredients such as coconut oil, shea butter and castor oil. As these ingredients can ensure maximum hydration without irritating the lips. One of our current favorites is the vitamin e balm by Valencia. This product not only delivers hydration but because it has vitamin e which is rich in antioxidants it will help protect the lips against environmental aggressors such as harsh winds and pollution.

Last but not least is to apply nightly lip treatments. Because our skin isn't in protection mode at night our skin is able to relax and repair itself. It repairs itself by reversing all damage that was caused by sun exposure, stress and pollution during the day. One of our current favorites is the nightly lip treatment by dermalogica this product not only hydrates but it reinforces the barrier function of the lips and also helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
